ART AT THE BEAN
We are so glad you’re interested in displaying your art in the Green Bean Coffeehouse. Please read the following details on our policies and the space to make sure that we can accommodate your work.
The Green Bean values art and artists of all kinds, and wants to honor both established artists and beginning artists alike. However, the Green Bean is also a coffee shop and not an art gallery, so we have slightly different guidelines for our space.
We schedule artists for one month at a time, and no more than once in a 12 month period.
We encourage joint shows if you do not have enough to fill the space yourself, or your styles especially complement each other.
Because we are a business serving a diverse mix of people from all backgrounds, and especially because young children frequent our space, we must be sensitive to what art is on our walls. If you have questions, please send us samples and we will let you know if it is appropriate for our space.
As a neighborhood coffeehouse we give priority to artists from our community and the Greenwood neighborhood. If you don't know us, and we don't know you, come in and say hi!
We have a lovely wall space available, with lots of natural light and its own hanging system. We use a series of metal rods that hook onto a rail. Then we have hooks that slide into place on the rods. You can stack art by adding multiple hooks to the rods. All of our rods are 2 ft long with the exception of two 4 ft long rods. These hooks work best with art that has a wire for hanging.
The short, East-facing wall has a space about 4 ft wide and 3 ft tall. The larger, North-facing wall is about 23 ft long and you could potentially have as much as 5 ft of vertical space, but being aware it is a walkway and there is the possibility of strollers and wheelchairs, etc, needing to pass at that height, I would recommend staying at 4 ft or less.
These hooks are rated to hold pieces up to 70 lbs.
Once you have your month confirmed, check your calendar and consider when you will be available to set up and take down your art (typically the first and last day of your month). Please be aware that the Bean is much busier in the mornings and we would prefer, whenever possible, that you come in after lunch to manage your artwork.
Our hours are Monday-Friday 6am-7pm, Saturday 7am-7pm, and Sunday 8am-6pm. Please plan to arrive no later than an hour before closing to make sure you have sufficient time to hang and arrange your pieces. These dates and times must be arranged with the Bean in advance in order to ensure a smooth transition from artist to artist.
Our Art Coordinator will contact you a couple of weeks before your start date to confirm. For this, and any other questions, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
